Abbot Public Library trustees reallocate playground funds, authorize travel and declare equipment surplus

The Abbot Public Library Board of Trustees unanimously approved three motions at its Feb. 2 meeting, authorizing modest reallocations and declaring equipment surplus.

Director Kimberly Grad asked the board to approve the transfer of $1,597.53 from remaining Imagination Playground funds in the Shattuck Fund to cover increased costs for Makerspace/Soundbooth improvements. The board also approved a motion to authorize up to $3,000 from the Sorenson Fund to help cover travel costs for Director Kimberly Grad and staff member Jane Wolff to attend the American Library Association Annual Conference June 25–29 in Chicago. Finally, trustees approved declaring as surplus five keyboards, seven desktop PCs and two printers so the town can dispose of them.

The motions were seconded and passed by roll-call vote (Gary Amberik, Kathy Barker, Marjorie Norman, Kathleen Waslov and John Williams all voting Yes). The minutes show the Shattuck Fund had $3,172.00 remaining of a $10,250.00 award for Imagination Playground blocks and $371.47 remaining of $14,430.00 for Makerspace/Soundbooth improvements prior to the transfer; after the approved $1,597.53 reallocation the remaining balances were adjusted accordingly. The Sorenson Fund balance was reported as $5,062.25; the board approved using up to $3,000 from that fund for conference travel. The minutes record earlier requested travel amounts of up to $2,500 for Grad and up to $1,000 for Wolff, and note the board authorized a combined amount of up to $3,000.

Trustees discussed the motions during the Director’s report and then voted. The decisions were procedural approvals of funding reallocations and surplus declarations; no policy changes were enacted.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for March 2, 2026, according to the minutes.
