Seaside prepares road closures, shuttles and added security for Monterey Car Week events

Assistant City Manager Dan Mus told council that Exotics on Broadway will close Del Monte and parts of Broadway, put a VIP area on Del Monte and leave a large free-access area on Broadway. Organizers expect several hundred vehicles and up to roughly 25,000 visitors over the weekend, and city staff is coordinating traffic-control plans, shuttles to offsite parking, and mutual-aid security resources.
What the city will do: Public works will pressure-wash sidewalks and perform street sweeping in advance; police will dedicate six officers to the event with mutual-aid backup and organizers are providing additional private security; the fire department will run on-site first-aid stations; the city will deploy message boards advising parking and route changes; shuttles will turn at Santa Barbara to expedite service from Eucalyptus parking lots.
Business outreach: Economic development staff and regional partners (C Monterey) said they will supply restaurant and parking maps, a QR-coded resource for visitors, and media outreach. Councilmembers urged more on-the-ground QR signage and ways to leverage event parking for fundraising or nonprofit support.
Accessibility and neighborhood impacts: Staff said ADA parking considerations are under review and asked organizers to work with the city on plans for seniors and people with disabilities. Councilmembers and residents urged careful handling of noise, crowds and wayfinding and asked for clearer signage from the freeway to downtown.
