Demorest council adopts amendment to balance 2024 budget after public hearing

The Demorest City Council on July 17 adopted an amendment to the city’s 2024 budget after a brief public hearing at which no members of the public spoke. City Manager Mark Musselwhite presented the recommended amendment, which he described as necessary to balance the prior year’s accounts, and Mayor Jerry Harkness closed the hearing before the council voted.
The council voted unanimously (4-0) to approve the amendment. According to the meeting notice, a copy of the proposed amended budget was made available for inspection at City Hall in accordance with OCGA 36-81-5.
City Manager Musselwhite told the council the amendment was intended to address year-end balancing needs and presented the recommended adjustments; the transcript records no public comment. The council did not record a roll-call vote listing individual yes votes beyond the recorded tally and the motion sponsor and seconder.
The meeting included other business, including a report from ISO and preliminary discussion of fire department options; additional discussion of the Fire Department budget and requests was scheduled for Aug. 5, 2025. The council adjourned at 7:11 p.m.
