Spring Grove council approves repairs funding, reallocations and routine items; sets July budget meeting

At its June 17 meeting the Spring Grove City Council approved $25,000 for street, alley and manhole repairs, reallocated $20,000 from flashing beacons to streets, authorized a Maple Drive closure for Aug. 13 Emergency Personnel Appreciation Night, and approved a PTO policy change for salaried employees; the budget meeting is set for July 30.
The Spring Grove City Council on June 17 approved several operational items including immediate funding for street and alley repairs, an event street closure, and a personnel policy change.
Funding and streets: The council approved a $25,000 request from infrastructure to patch alleys, streets and manhole covers now, with the intent to budget for chip sealing next year to preserve pavement. Council Member Eric Ostern moved to approve the $25,000 request; Council Member Trent Turner seconded and the motion carried. The council also approved reallocation of $20,000 previously budgeted for flashing beacons to be used for the same street and alley repairs, with the understanding the flashing beacons can be rebudgeted next year.
Event closure: Council Member Trent Turner moved, and Council Member Michael Hagen seconded, to close Maple Drive from Wilmington Mutual to the Manor on the evening of Aug. 13, 2025 for the Emergency Personnel Appreciation Night; the motion carried.
PTO policy: The council approved a change to Policy 3-30 requiring salaried employees to use PTO for any scheduled time off, regardless of whether they worked more than 40 hours in the same week. Council Member Turner moved the change; Council Member Hagen seconded and the motion carried.
Other items: Elton reported two pending grant applications for the Fire Department (a Minnesota DNR request for $5,930 in wildland equipment and a State Farm Good Neighbor grant request for $7,806.35) and noted a new home construction permit was granted. Parks discussion included authorization to meet with a local arborist to evaluate older trees and a report the Parks committee received a new grant and is planning a disc golf course at Trollskogen Park.
The council set its budget meeting for July 30, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall (backup July 31). The meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m.
