Spring Grove council to await rental study as downtown rebuild plans shift

Clerk/Administrator Jana Elton told the Spring Grove City Council on July 15 that the Downtown Task Force is recommending the city wait for the results of a rental study before moving forward with downtown rebuilding plans. "The numbers will eventually work themselves out, the city doesn’t know what those numbers are at this point," Elton said.
The update, delivered during the council's regular meeting at 168 West Main Street, summarized the July 1 Task Force meeting at the Spring Grove Area Chamber Building. Elton listed Task Force participants as Karen Folstad and Jana Halverson from the library, Jayme Longmire from CEDA, and Council Members Eric Ostern and Michael Hagen, along with Elton herself.
Elton said funds are available to complete the rental study now in progress and that the city should wait for those recommendations before making further decisions about downtown rebuilding. She added that a new business owner has expressed interest in rebuilding the downtown hardware store in its original location, which could affect future plans.
The council received the update but did not take action on downtown redevelopment at the July 15 meeting; Elton said the Task Force will bring further recommendations to the council once the rental study is complete.
