Council tables Lund parcel and animal-control pay review; approves Fest Building uses and training

The Spring Grove City Council on Jan. 21 tabled two items for further review and approved several community-program and facility-use requests.
Ron Lund called to request postponing questions about the Lund family property (parcel 260070000); the council voted 4-0 to table the matter until the February meeting. Separately, Isaak Solum asked the council to increase his 2025 animal-control contract, saying he handled about six to seven calls per month in 2024 and that trap-checking and follow-up add to his workload. Council Member Mike Hagen moved to table the animal-control agreement request pending contact with Administrator Elton to determine whether funds can be reallocated in the budget; the motion passed 4-0.
On community uses, the council approved allowing pickleball at the Fest Building on nonrented Saturday mornings through March 31. The council also approved Sadie Morken’s request to hold dance classes Monday evenings Feb. 3–May 19 at the Fest Building while the school gym is unavailable: the council approved a one-time nonprofit fee of $50 for the class series and required a refundable $100 deposit.
Council also approved attendance for Mayor Wilhelmson and Council Member Buckland at the Elected Leaders Institute foundational online training at $99 per person. The council noted SEMLM meetings as recommended training for new council members and encouraged attendance when possible.
Both the Lund parcel and the animal-control contract increase were explicitly tabled for the council’s February meeting so staff can clarify budget availability and related details.
