The Granite County representative to the Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority updated the board on planning for a proposed passenger corridor and asked the county to authorize a voluntary contribution and partial reimbursement for travel to a rail summit.
The representative described long-range work on corridor identification and federal engagement, workforce development needs, and local community outreach. She asked the county to pay a formula-based voluntary contribution (roughly $1,300–$1,400 depending on the formula), and to cover lodging and mileage for three nights to attend the Greater Northwest Rail Summit in Helena Aug. 24–27; she noted board registration covers some meals and that Zoom attendance is an option.
Commissioners discussed the request and voted to pay the voluntary contribution and to cover three nights of lodging for the county representative; they noted that Zoom registration (about $50) would be a lower-cost alternative if travel is not feasible. The board also encouraged attendance at a scheduled community meeting in Drummond on July 7 to provide public input on potential stop locations.
A public volunteer for the authority explained that remote participation is available for the summit and said board members and the public were invited to follow via Zoom. Commissioners asked the representative to report back after the conference.
