The Spring Grove City Council unanimously approved a reimbursement resolution on Nov. 19 that clears the way for the city to make a down payment on a new fire truck while final USDA financing is completed.
Clerk/Administrator Jana Elton told the council additional USDA loan forms must be signed for the fire truck purchase and explained that because the loan will proceed through the U.S. Department of Agriculture the city only needed to approve Resolution 24-53, which permits the General Fund to provide up to $175,000 as an interim down payment to be reimbursed once the loan is finalized. Council Member Trent Turner moved to approve the resolution; Council Member Heather Edgington seconded and the motion carried with all members voting in favor.
The council also approved Resolution 24-54 dedicating the Sylling and Gerard alley for public use and appointed Amanda Meyer to the Parks and Recreation Commission. Mayor Saundra Solum was authorized to step in for Council Member Turner during upcoming union negotiations due to changes in Turner’s employment circumstances.
On business licensing matters, the council approved a request allowing The Lions Pub to stay open until 2 a.m. on an as-needed basis with a $50 fee, and later approved a separate temporary liquor license for the Giants of the Earth event, reflecting recent changes in temporary license rules. The council reviewed and authorized payment to Viking Electric for new court lighting, agreeing to split the invoice overage so the city pays $5,003.91 and uses Contingency funds for the remainder.
