Marquette County Health Department reports water lab certification, pending DNR nitrate audit results and routine inspections
Summary

Environmental Specialist Jessica Jungenberg told the board that the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection audited the county water lab in March and granted certification for bacteria testing to begin. She said the DNR conducted a separate April audit of the nitrate testing program and the department is waiting for official documentation about any possible protocol deficiencies.
Jungenberg presented program statistics: March rabies contacts numbered five (including one quarantine order and one unvaccinated animal), and March had one well-water test and two kennel contacts; April included one water test and 20 housing contacts. She also summarized routine food-safety inspections for March and April across Marquette and Green Lake counties.
Health Officer Jayme Sopha notified the board that the department received an $8,500 NEHA grant to send Jungenberg to the National Environmental Health Association conference in Kansas City to support FDA program standards work; the grant covers travel, lodging, food and transportation costs. The board reviewed a preliminary 2025 year-end budget report and an April voucher of department expenses; no budget concerns were raised.
