Marquette County public-safety committee reviews training, fleet, jail and treatment court updates

Marquette County officials updated the Judicial & Public Safety Committee on a suite of public-safety operations during the May 5 meeting in Montello.
Emergency management and EMS staff reported a Weather Spotter training session rescheduled for May 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Public Safety Room and said a full-scale exercise involving fire, EMS, highway, schools and the Sheriff’s Office would take place Saturday, May 9. EMS Director Rob Lulling reported April statistics are posted to SharePoint and estimated a state Medicare return of about $104,000. He also said FCI contacted EMS staff to confirm the Westfield station would not be closing.
The Sheriff’s Office provided a monthly CAD report and a quarterly jail report. Chief Deputy Scott Johnston said Treatment Court currently has 11 participants and provided a housing update; he noted Marquette County Treatment Court has been nominated for or received state awards for five consecutive years and that Logan Robertson was named 'Hero of the Year' at the recent state conference. May was noted as National Treatment Court Month.
Captain Kowalski gave an Enterprise Fleet update: the Sheriff’s Office operates 12 leased and 18 county-owned vehicles (five of which are scheduled for sale this year), one ambulance used by the drone team and a total fleet count of 26 vehicles; two units are listed on the county surplus website. After analysis, staff concluded only three additional vehicles would likely be needed for 2027. The committee discussed meal costs tied to jail population and a reported Tahoe repair exceeding $13,000.
Clerk of Court Shari Rudolph said court fees are likely to be adjusted in November across approximately 60 fee items; she said the county does not yet have an estimate of the resulting revenue.
