Ithaca board approves 4% increase for managerial staff, awards summer abatement work and passes consent agenda

Board members moved and seconded the amendment to the personnel report (H10), discussed briefly and called the question; the motion passed unanimously. The personnel report was also included as part of the consent agenda, which the board approved as presented with the personnel report amended.
During discussion of consent items, board members and staff flagged a capital project listed in the agenda related to work at the elementary school identified in the agenda text as "Kauga Heights" (transcript spelling). Travis Randle of Campus Construction Management Group told the board the item 7.18 involves asbestos abatement and required expedited, non‑public procurement because public bid timing would not have allowed the work to be completed over the summer. "It's asbestos abatement in nature. It's imperative that we complete that work this summer," Randle said, adding that other work is contingent on the abatement being done first.
A board member also asked about hourly educational coaches listed in the personnel report; a respondent explained these positions are typically retired educators hired to support newer teachers and are engaged as contracted services.
Separately, the board approved a resolution authorizing a named board member (identified in the agenda as Karen) to attend the National Alliance of Black School Educators conference in Orlando, Florida, Dec. 2–6, 2026. Members discussed precedent and budget planning for board travel before the motion passed unanimously.
All consent‑agenda items, including personnel changes and capital authorizations read into the record, were approved in a single vote. The board indicated the abatement work must be completed before the start of the school year and that staff had pursued an expedited procurement route because few contractors had summer availability.
