The Deep River Board of Selectmen handled routine business March 24, approving minutes, a tax refund and committee appointments and recognizing recent community events.
The board approved minutes from four recent meetings (Feb. 10, Feb. 25, Mar. 2 and Mar. 12) on a 3-0 vote after a motion by Duane Gates and a second from Cynthia Torres. The board also approved one tax refund in the amount of $312.59 (motion by Cynthia Torres, second by Duane Gates) and appointed Dave Berardis and Bruce Newman as full members of the Firehouse Building Committee (motion by Duane Gates, second Cynthia Torres; carried 3-0). One alternate position on that committee remains open.
Selectmen recognized organizers Rose and Frank Natter for the 20th annual Face Arts Music "Jams for Cans," which raised approximately $1,200 and collected about 1,663 pounds of nonperishable food. The board also heard a recap from the Economic Development Commission on the March 21 "Frost to Flower" event, which included a "Glass Hearts" treasure hunt organized by Jeni Gray Roberts of River Fire Glass; recognition was given to EDC members including Jessica Langston and 250th committee member Kyra Beta. Postcards and merchandise for the town’s 250th celebration were also reported as in distribution or preorder.
