Zachary Machold, chair of the Firehouse Building Committee, told the board that seven firms responded to the committee’s request and the committee recommended TSKP Studio to conduct an initial design and needs assessment estimated at $40,000. The board voted 3-0 to send the contract to Town Attorney Jane Marsh for review; the motion was made by Duane Gates and seconded by Cynthia Torres.
Earlier in the meeting the chair of the Board of Finance warned the project could increase town debt by about $10 million and urged the design professional to explore cost‑effective options, including possible renovation of the existing structure. The committee and board emphasized the need for a solution that addresses both the firehouse and broader town needs while seeking ways to reduce cost.
The board also appointed two new full members to the Firehouse Building Committee at the meeting, expanding the committee as it moves toward selecting and contracting with a design professional. The selectmen gave no timeline for construction and the contract was sent for legal review rather than to a vote on contract approval.
