Monroe County commissioners on July 2 approved 41 Sophia Travis Community Service Grant agreements totaling $190,000, funding a wide range of nonprofit programs addressing food security, shelter, veteran assistance, and youth services.
County staff presented the full list of awardees and project descriptions. Notable awards included Pantry 279 ($13,000 for nutritional food for food‑insecure families), Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry ($11,400 for local meat processing to support hunger relief), Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington ($8,600 for summer field trips) and New Hope for Families ($7,400 for summer camp at the family shelter). The grants support small, short‑term projects as well as program expansions.
The county said the awards were vetted by a review committee and authorized by the council earlier this month; the commission finalized and signed the agreements at the July 2 meeting. Staff urged grantees to follow the agreement templates provided in the packet and to reach out to the county for questions about reporting requirements.
