Monroe County expands juvenile services with $80,000 JDAI funds for interventions, data and family supports

Monroe County probation and juvenile services leaders told commissioners on July 2 they will use a roughly $80,000 Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) award to broaden prevention and diversion programming, data analysis and family supports.
Probation director Christine McAfee said the award gives the county flexibility to invest about $60,000 directly in community programming while retaining funds for data, evaluation and coordination. “For the 26–27 fiscal year, we were awarded $80,000 ... the exciting thing is we are able to put just over $60,000 into programming for our community,” McAfee said.
The board approved multiple memoranda of understanding that draw on that pool, including a continuing partnership with Centerstone to deliver Teen Intervene (a six‑week, evidence‑based intervention for low‑to‑moderate substance use), an agreement with Impact Solutions for Tableau‑based data visualization and reporting, and contracts with Family Solutions, Just Insight LLC (data work related to an SRS transition), People and Animal Learning Services (PALS) for equine‑assisted family sessions and other parenting-focused providers. Commissioners emphasized a strategy of prevention and keeping young people out of deeper system involvement.
McAfee described the overall approach as “data‑driven” and aimed at reducing barriers to care (for example, direct referrals to Centerstone so families avoid multiple intake steps). All the listed MOUs were approved by voice vote during the meeting.
