Council approves housekeeping change to lot-proportion rule in land-use code

The Grantsville City Council on June 3 voted unanimously to approve Ordinance 2026-25, amending Section 4.5 of the Grantsville Land Use Management Code to revise the threshold that triggers a maximum three-to-one length-to-width lot ratio from one-half acre to lots of 14,000 square feet or less.
Planning & Zoning Administrator Shelby Moore explained the existing language produced a mismatch: a lot with the minimum required frontage of 70 feet and a three-to-one ratio would contain only about 14,700 square feet, so the threshold change aligns the text with the intended application. The Planning Commission had reviewed the amendment and recommended approval.
Rick Barchers suggested during public comment that increasing minimum lot width could alternatively address frontage concerns and recommended retaining language requiring lots to front on public or private streets; Moore clarified the amendment only modifies the applicability threshold and does not change access requirements or other provisions. Councilmember Jeff Williams moved to approve the ordinance; Councilmember Brittany Skinner seconded and the vote was unanimous.
Councilmembers characterized the change as a housekeeping correction to make the code function as intended rather than an alteration of lot-access rules.
