Pernice said his preference remains to hire two part-time officers but that only one position was approved by council. After the chief outlined the recruitment steps, councilors agreed to search for one part-time officer and directed staff to proceed with the Civil Service process and candidate outreach.
No formal motion or vote on hiring was recorded in the minutes beyond the council's agreement to pursue a replacement search; Pernice said he will send letters and work with the Civil Service Commission on oral exams.
