Union City Borough Council voted unanimously to award a $22,295 contract to Mansfield to repair a sinkhole and damaged drainage at Municipal Lot #1.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips described the sinkhole and said consultants recommended replacing the 24‑inch clay tile, reconnecting pipes that feed the sinkhole, installing a larger adjacent catch basin and replacing approximately 10 feet of pipe. Bob Carpenter of Insight and engineer Tim Wells provided the recommendations. Council reviewed two estimates: Mansfield at $22,295 and McLallen Construction at $23,450. Both bids required the borough to supply a truck during construction.
Councilor Steadman moved to authorize the Mansfield work; Councilor Osborn seconded the motion, which carried unanimously. The minutes record the scope of work and cost but do not list a project start date or expected completion timeframe. The Borough did not specify whether state or county permits are required for the work during the meeting.
