Cerro Gordo County canvasses primary, adopts resolution certifying results

The Cerro Gordo County board met in a special session to canvass the results of the recent primary election and voted to certify those results.
The county auditor told the board the purpose of the canvass was to compare tally books with ballots counted by the ballot scanners and to prepare materials for the Secretary of State’s office so those office can formally certify which candidates will appear on the November ballot. "The primary election went off very well," the auditor said, noting that staff had the tally books available for review.
Election staff then read precinct totals aloud and compared "pages cast" entries in the tally books to the scanner counts; the board heard multiple precinct totals that matched the ballot counts listed in the tally books (examples included Curling Ward 1, 341; Clear Lake Ward 2, 304; and several Mason City ward precincts). The auditor's office reported the total absentee ballots as 751 and confirmed that number matched the absentee tally books.
After the review, a member moved to adopt Resolution 2026-41 to approve the canvass and certify the primary results; the motion was seconded and adopted by voice vote, and the chair declared the motion adopted. The board took no additional substantive action and adjourned the special session.
What happens next: the county will forward the canvass materials to the Secretary of State’s office for the formal certification that determines which candidates advance to the general election ballot.
