Deephaven Park Committee reviews park conditions, rink use and event planning; minutes approved

The Deephaven Park Committee on Jan. 6 received updates on park conditions, approved recurring program permissions and handled routine business.
Committee members noted maintenance and use issues at several parks and that the grant application for buckthorn removal at Burton Park remained pending. Staff said Sandy Beach is being used as a snowmobile thoroughfare and that Rocky Beach remains rocky; Harrolson Park has seen winter paddleball activity.
City Administrator and Special Counsel Dan Madsen said the Village Hall hockey rink is well used and staff will hold a ribbon‑cutting ceremony on Feb. 2; he also said ice maintenance has been challenging because of the sealant used on the rink. Madsen said Minnetonka Community Education again requested permission to host tennis lessons at Village Hall Park and sunset yoga at Robinson's Bay Beach and that the Committee had no objection to continuing those annual approvals.
On the 250th semiquincentennial fireworks discussion, Madsen said the Council was considering partnering with the Minnetonka Yacht Club or having the city hold the fireworks contract; because responsibility had not been decided, fundraising and a plan had not been finalized.
Procedural actions: Joe Haugsland moved and Ryan Macgregor seconded approval of the Nov. 12, 2025 Park Committee minutes; the motion carried with votes in favor from Cory Lepper, Joe Haugsland, Gabrielle Turner and Ryan Macgregor. Later, Ryan Macgregor moved and Gabrielle Turner seconded to adjourn; that motion also carried with the same four votes and the meeting adjourned at about 7:10 p.m. Minutes were submitted by Dan Madsen on Jan. 30, 2026.
