Commissioner Phillips used his commissioner‑report time at the May 15 meeting to commend National City Police Department animal‑control officers for a quick response that rescued a snake trapped in netting.
Phillips described the incident and praised the officers’ response: “I had an interaction with the National City Police Department this week where I called on their animal control, animal regulations officer to come and assist with an animal that was a snake actually that was captured in my yard... He did a great job and the snake was rescued and released back into the wild to do what he needed to do.”
Phillips told the commission the officers arrived quickly and that both he and the rescued snake were satisfied with the outcome: “Both me and the snake are very happy with the service that we got.”
The commission did not take formal action on the commendation; members verbally welcomed the report during the meeting’s commissioner‑reports portion.
