The National City Community and Police Relations Commission on May 15 welcomed new commissioner Jake Zendulka, who described a background in civil‑rights litigation and recent work for the state.
Zendulka said he lives on the city’s West Side and summarized his legal experience: “I’ve been a licensed attorney. I’ve been licensed for about 7 years now. I started as a deputy county counsel at the county counsel’s office doing civil rights litigation... I worked as a staff attorney at the San Diego volunteer lawyer program where I worked on domestic violence cases. And now I’ve recently transitioned to state service. So I’m an in house attorney for the Department of Health Care Services which administers Medi Cal, Medicaid in California.”
The commission’s chair and other members welcomed Zendulka and thanked him for joining the board. Commissioners noted his experience in civil‑rights litigation and public‑service law as relevant to the commission’s oversight and community‑engagement work.
The commission did not take any formal votes related to the appointment during the public session; the meeting proceeded to routine business and a closed‑session report from the city attorney. The commission adjourned to its next regular meeting, scheduled for Aug. 21, 2025, at 6 p.m.
