Board recommends coordinating shared Jackson Drive repairs with neighboring town in 2027

At its June 30 meeting, the Village of Jackson Board of Public Works recommended that the village include a roughly 1,555‑foot shared portion of Jackson Drive in the 2027 capital roads schedule so the village and the neighboring town can coordinate one contract and pave the corridor in the same year.

Jack, the village’s director of public works, told the board he incorporated that shared segment into the 2027 plan after discussions with the town and argued that “it only makes sense for us to do it at the same time,” both to avoid a gap between jurisdictions and because underground water and sewer infrastructure in the corridor also needs attention.

The board discussed two practical approaches if the town takes the lead on bidding: have the contractor invoice the village directly for the village’s footage at unit price, or have the village receive the full contractor invoice and remit the village portion to the town. Staff said it prefers the cleaner approach of direct invoicing from the contractor for the village’s portion.

Board members also noted that final approval of the price and schedule will sit with the village board and budget/finance committee during the 2027 budget process; the committee’s vote was to recommend incorporation of the proposed roads schedule into the village’s financial management and capital projects plan. The motion to recommend the 15‑year roads plan for inclusion in the 2027 financial plan passed by voice vote (no roll‑call tally recorded).
