Residents press Oktibbeha County on jail relocation, road dust health impacts and private-road adoption

At the start of its June 1 meeting the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors opened a three-minute Citizens' Comment Period during which three residents raised local concerns.
Alvin Turner asked the Board to consider family support continuity and voiced concerns about the potential relocation of the county jail and the upcoming county redistricting process. The Board unanimously moved to acknowledge Turner's comments (motion by Supervisor Joe Williams, seconded by Supervisor Pattie Little).
Lena Smith of 101 Great Lane, Old Highway 25, told the Board that recent road treatments have generated severe white dust that "causes significant coughing and health concerns for residents with bronchitis" and provided a contact number for follow-up. The Board unanimously acknowledged her comment (motion by Supervisor Williams, seconded by Supervisor Little).
Monica Perry of 1948 Old Highway 25 requested that the county engineer evaluate her private road off Tobacco Juice Creek (identified in the record as Viper Drive) to determine the work required to meet county adoption standards. County leaders discussed persistent flooding in the Tobacco Juice Creek area and the need to coordinate water routing with road improvements. The Board unanimously authorized the county engineer to evaluate the road and provide an assessment of adoption requirements (motion by Supervisor Williams, seconded by Supervisor Orlando Trainer).
President Marvel Howard closed the comment period after hearing no further requests. The Board recorded formal acknowledgements for each speaker; the engineering evaluation ordered for Viper Drive is a directed follow-up that will produce a report on adoption criteria and required works.
