The Newington Board of Park and Recreation approved two public–private agreements on April 21 to support summer events at Mill Pond Park and reviewed staffing and vendor needs for upcoming community gatherings.
The board approved a public–private partnership agreement with the Church of Christ Congregational to host "Sundays on Wednesday" at Mill Pond Park, scheduled for July 15, 2026. The agreement includes volunteer support from Melanie Enfield and an expansion in supplied ice cream for the event. A motion to accept the agreement was made and approved by voice vote.
Separately, the board approved a $750 public–private partnership with Sparks Social Sports to operate the beer and wine garden during the Mill Pond Park event. The sponsorship was presented as returning the organization to the department's Extravaganza programming; the motion to accept the $750 sponsorship was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Board members and staff also reviewed ancillary event planning: parade lineup for May 23 (9:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran), Creative Playtime Preschool graduation scheduled for June 9 at the Martinsburg Community Center gym, and volunteer signups for New Martinsburg Old Country and Food Truck Friday events. Staff reported about 22 vendors signed for the extravaganza (capacity roughly 23–24) and 15 trucks committed for two food‑truck events; board members were asked to help with wristband and ticket sales.
The board thanked event volunteers and encouraged continued outreach to recruit additional vendor support and volunteer shifts.
