Chief Trommer reported that the first order for firehouse exhaust equipment was placed and that vendors cited a roughly 10‑week delivery timeframe. "The first order was sent to the vendor… I would say about two or three months," Chief Trommer said, adding the department hopes installations will be completed by September.
The board also discussed repairs to the department's burn room. That purchase used the consortium (CSC) procurement route and the state portal, and purchase orders were issued; scheduling for the repair work is pending to align with training availability. "That was also on the consortium… the portal that we used," a commissioner said when confirming the procurement path.
Separately, the Building Committee reported progress on space needs for Company 3 and Company 4 and said an architect was selected for preliminary design work at Station 3 (Chapman Street); a site visit by the architect was expected the following week as part of initial cost-estimating steps.
Commissioners and chiefs publicly thanked the Town Council and the Finance Director for approving funding for the exhaust project and related items. "I want to thank the Town Council and the Finance Director… that's going to be a good benefit for the department, especially for cancer prevention," Chief Trommer said, linking the exhaust project to firefighter health protections.
The board did not adopt a separate resolution for these items during the meeting; procurement activities described are proceeding under previously approved budget authority and cooperative purchasing mechanisms. Installation and repair timelines were described as estimates contingent on vendor delivery and scheduling.
