The Board on June 22 approved several public-safety measures. Fire Coordinator Patrick Warner presented a request to amend the budget to accept $31,671.92 in insurance proceeds for wind and hail damage to the District 4 Belaire Fire Station and proposed a combined repair-and-expansion project totaling $65,266.00. The Board voted to approve the budget amendment and to authorize a construction contract for the repairs and expansion.
Warner also requested approval to purchase a 2026 Ford F350 cab-and-chassis from Crowson Auto World for $62,099.00 and related outfitting and skid-unit equipment totaling $33,096.02, for a combined brush-truck cost of $95,195.02. The Board approved the procurement, which uses $57,368.00 in surplus proceeds from a prior pumper-truck sale with the remainder funded by a mix of state grant and fire funds.
Separately, after discussing operational strain caused by non-emergency and abusive 911 calls, the Board voted unanimously to direct Fire Coordinator Warner and Board Attorney Rob Roberson to research and draft a county ordinance that defines abuse of the 911 system and establishes a schedule of civil fines and administrative penalties for presentation to the Board at a future meeting.
All items were approved on motions by Supervisor Joe Williams, seconded by Supervisor Pattie Little, and recorded as unanimous.
