East Windsor board says it will press ahead with renovation plan after legislators raise consolidation idea

Staff and architects from CSG presented preliminary designs for the elementary and high school projects and told the ad hoc committee that they can fit required programs into proposed footprints. District staff said architects will submit more detailed plans to the ad hoc committee next week and encouraged board members and the public to attend that presentation for questions and clarification.
District staff also summarized a meeting with the legislative delegation in which Senator Anoir raised the idea of combining high school students with Ellington. Staff told the board that two broad models would apply if that path were pursued: regionalization (joint governance with representation apportioned by population) or tuitioning (sending East Windsor students to another district without board representation). Staff said the board was not pursuing consolidation at present and described the senator's suggestion as an invitation to discuss possibilities rather than a condition for state support.
"Weare well down a roadwe're not changing at this point," staff said, urging the board to continue the current renovation process while keeping contingency plans in mind. Board members repeatedly stressed the district does not have the luxury of time and urged staff to keep moving toward the application and voter timeline.
Members asked that finalized educational specifications and architectural drawings be circulated promptly after the ad hoc meeting so the full board can review details and, if needed, hold a special meeting. The board noted the target is to have clear direction by June 30 with possible short extensions, and that pursuing a regionalization path would be a longer-term option requiring separate deliberations.
Next steps: the ad hoc committee will receive refined plans next Wednesday; the board encouraged broad attendance and said it would consider a special meeting soon after to review ed specs and drawings before taking any formal votes.
