West Whiteland proclaims National Library Week and accepts $35,000 Friends of the Parks donation for Roscioli Park

The Board of Supervisors proclaimed April 19–25, 2026, as National Library Week at its April 8 meeting and unanimously approved Resolution 2026‑15 after a brief presentation by Melissa Straka of the Chester County Library.
Straka, Information and Reader Services Manager, told the Board that since launching a passport acceptance facility on March 2 the library system has processed 53 passports there and that all 18 county libraries now offer enhanced grant‑seeking resources for nonprofit organizations.
The Board also recognized township staff, volunteers and community partners who maintain and program the township’s more than 400 acres of parks and open space. Friends of the Parks President Lori McDermott presented a $35,000 check to support new playground equipment at Roscioli Park. Township Supervisor Pam Gural‑Bear said the donation and volunteer effort illustrate community partnership, stating, "It takes a village." Ally Brandt, Park, Recreation, and Event Coordinator, was noted for securing Bird Town and Tree City USA designations and for receiving the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society’s Outstanding New Professional Award.
The Board encouraged residents to learn more about park programs and upcoming events, including the Summer Concert Series, Story Strolls, Arbor Day and Earth Day activities. The donation will be applied to playground equipment purchases and installation subject to standard procurement and project scheduling.
