Planning board seeks rezoning of landfill-area parcels to light industrial; county to hold hearing

Richard Carriers and Mary, planning board members, presented an application to rezone roughly 100 acres (sections 22 and 23, including the county landfill and adjacent acreage) from agricultural to light industrial. Carriers explained the mapping and legal description and said a cadastral map still needs updating to reflect the parcel changes.
Carriers said the planning board reviewed the application and the supporting language; the board will combine the rezoning matter with a scheduled growth-policy meeting with the county’s engineer to ensure required public notice and two-week posting are handled correctly. Commissioners were reminded that the commission must hold a public hearing and sign the final paperwork if it decides to approve the rezoning.
Following the presentation, a commissioner moved, a second was made, and the motion to forward the rezoning packet passed with no recorded opposition. Staff was instructed to publish the required notices and schedule the hearing as part of the county’s growth-policy process.
The item will return to the commission for a hearing where neighboring property owners and other stakeholders may comment before final action.
