Daniels County approves notice to proceed for Cold Creek Bridge project

Daniels County commissioners voted unanimously to sign a notice to proceed for the Cold Creek Bridge construction contract with Sentry Companies, authorizing demolition to begin the week of Aug. 5 and work to progress toward a fall installation.

Commissioners reviewed contract materials and the notice to proceed. The packet showed a primary contract figure around $1.56 million, with an additional roughly $200,000 already paid for the bridge structure; county discussion noted a concrete bridge deck item listed at about $179,000 and a crushed aggregate surfacing/base price for other elements. A staff representative said the contractor hoped to have the structure installed by about Oct. 10, and the board agreed to execute the notice to proceed after confirming paperwork and copies for county records.

Commissioners asked about guard rails and width; recorded materials indicate a 24‑ to 28‑foot clear width for the deck and referenced approach guardrail/bridge‑approach sections that will be installed as part of the work. The board also discussed budgeting for the project and how prior payments for the structural elements fit into the total county commitment. The motion to sign the notice to proceed was moved, seconded and carried by unanimous voice vote.

Next steps: staff and the contractor will coordinate preconstruction logistics and set field access and notices; the board will receive updates as work progresses and when additional contract addenda or pay applications are presented for approval.
