Town of Murray approves formation of Water District 17; Comptroller review required

The Town of Murray Board voted unanimously Feb. 23 to form Water District 17 after holding a public hearing where three residents urged the board to approve the district.
Councilperson Elaine Berg called the hearing to order; public comments in support were offered by Stacy Keon and Steven Keon of 15764 W. Brockville Road and by Julia Ham of 3325 Hindsburg Road, who said they need reliable water service in their area. After closing the hearing, the board approved formation of Water District 17 by motion of Councilperson Neil Valentine, seconded by Councilperson Scott Lang; the motion carried unanimously.
Board members also noted a prior discrepancy between the MRB engineers' map/plan and the grant versus loan amounts that has been corrected. Town officials said the district's projected debt service exceeds the New York State Comptroller's threshold, which means the formation will require the NYS Comptroller's review and approval before it takes final effect.
The board's vote establishes the district subject to any required external approvals and to whatever implementation steps the town and the engineers complete next.
