Murray board introduces Local Law to change Grievance Day; hearing set for Feb. 23

Councilperson Scott Lang moved to schedule a public hearing on the proposal for Feb. 23, 2026 at 6:30 p.m., with advertisement in the Batavia Daily News; Councilperson Neil Valentine seconded and the motion carried. Later in the meeting Councilperson Neil Valentine moved (seconded by Scott Lang) to introduce Local Law #1 of 2026 to effect the change; the board agreed.
The proposed change would designate the fourth Tuesday in May as the annual Grievance Day, the occasion when property owners may challenge assessed valuations for tax purposes. The measure was introduced for public consideration and will be the subject of the scheduled hearing, at which property owners may comment.
Next steps: the public hearing on the local law will be held Feb. 23, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.; the town will publish notice and accept public comment in accordance with statutory notice requirements.
