Schodack Town Board unanimously approves personnel appointments, union agreements and town cleaning contract

Supervisor Charles J. Peter called the Town Board of the Town of Schodack to order at 7:00 p.m. on June 25, 2026, and summarized the evening’s agenda, including several personnel items, labor agreements and a proposed cleaning-services contract.
The board voted 5–0 to amend earlier resolutions to add one counselor to the Town’s Summer Youth and Recreation Program. Council member James E. Bult moved the amendment and Council member Sarah Rae Coyne seconded; the motion authorized Counselor Kardell Williams at salary/hourly rates referenced in resolution 2025-315. The minutes record the vote as Ayes — J. Bult, M. Kenney, S. Swartz, S. Coyne, C. Peter; Noes — 0.
The minutes also record the appointment of Alexander Herrick to the position of Police Detective, effective July 6, 2026. The record shows the appointment carried by the same 5–0 vote. (The minutes label this appointment with the same numeric resolution identifier used for the day-camp counselor; the transcript contains inconsistent resolution numbering — see audit.)
On labor matters, the board authorized Supervisor Peter to execute a Memorandum of Agreement between the Town and CSEA covering Transfer Station employees (document dated June 15, 2026). The board also ratified a Stipulation of Settlement by and between the Town and CSEA (dated June 18, 2026). Both actions passed unanimously.
The minutes record a contract authorization with MGL Cleaning, Inc., in a monthly amount not to exceed $3,500 with a contract expiration date of December 31, 2026. Supervisor Peter told the board it would “entertain a rate increase for MGL Cleaning through the end of 2026; however, to follow guidance from the NYS Comptroller’s Office, a Request for Proposals for cleaning services will be released towards the end of the year.” The record contains an inconsistency: an earlier agenda note states that resolution 2026-190 was withdrawn prior to the meeting, yet the minutes later record a motion labeled 2026-190 authorizing the MGL Cleaning contract. This discrepancy is noted in the audit below.
Several discussion items did not require board action. Supervisor Peter said interviews had been held for a Highway Department mechanic but that details remain to be worked out before any formal offer. Peter and Council member Coyne reported meeting with representatives of Castleton Ambulance and the Valatie Rescue Squad about Advanced Life Support for the town and said a status update would be circulated to board members. The board was briefed on community events: the Yankee Doodle Band will perform June 30 at Town Park and Music in the Park will pause until August; the Town of Schodack Community Market has been well attended, and Council member Scott Swartz asked marketgoers using the plaza across from Town Hall to cross Routes 9 and 20 at the crosswalk for safety.
Supervisor Peter said HMA Contracting has begun paving preparation on Loweree Road, Graw Road and Prestwick Drive; utility work on Waters Road is ongoing and paving there is postponed to 2027, at which time Isabella Court and a portion of Jenna Lane will be paved. With no further business, the board adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
Next steps noted in the minutes include issuance of a Request for Proposals later in the year for cleaning services to comply with NYS Comptroller guidance and circulation of the Advanced Life Support status update to board members.
