Coach Scott Mang praises players’ character after roster recognition

Head coach Scott Mang told the board the season produced strong competitive results — he cited EPC regular-season and district finals and PIAA appearances — but emphasized character above trophies. "It's a privilege to coach these boys and represent Parkland," Mang said, and recounted a recent incident in which two players stopped to help an older woman whose car had run off an embankment, then helped get the vehicle out of the ditch. He said the students wore Parkland shirts while assisting the woman and later wrote a letter to the high school athletic department about the event.
The recognition items were presented as part of the district’s routine student highlights, which also included arts projects, coding activities and Education Foundation programs described later in the meeting. Board members and administrators praised the students for sportsmanship and community service and extended holiday greetings to attendees before moving to consent and committee business.
