Parkland recognizes National Merit semifinalists and commended students; elementary students honored
Summary
Board honored Fogelsville elementary students at the start of the meeting and Parkland High School announced 11 National Merit semifinalists and 13 commended students; students and parents were invited forward for recognition and photos.
The board opened with recognition of Fogelsville elementary students presented by Lisa Lesko and then moved to a presentation by high‑school principal Nate Davidson announcing Parkland High School27s National Merit honorees.
Davidson told the board that "11 Parkland High School students have been selected as National Merit semifinalists," and he named the semifinalists and the 13 students who were commended. Parents of semifinalists were asked to stand to be recognized and students were invited forward for photos with Board President Carol Fasciano and the student representative. The board noted that some students could not attend but congratulated all honorees and their families.
Earlier in the meeting Lesko introduced three Fogelsville students — Annabelle (a fifth grader), Charlie (a third grader) and Harry (a kindergartner) — and highlighted classroom achievements, favorite subjects and extracurricular interests.
The board27s recognition emphasized academic achievement and community participation and closed the item with applause for the students and parents.
