Board approves bids for RDC football field and clears pay estimate; one abstention on payment

The Clark County Public Schools board voted to accept bids for the RDC football field and related renovation work and approved a pay estimate for ongoing renovation work, with one trustee abstaining from the payment vote.

Staff presented results from the district's solicitation, reporting Rising Sun Developing submitted the low bid for the football field package at $2,479,000, Somerset Mechanical was the low bidder on the plumbing package at $58,800 and Knights Electric submitted the low electrical bid at $380,275. "low biders for this was Rising Sun Developing ... they were low bid at 2,479,000," the presenter stated when summarizing the bids and recommending the board move forward.

Board members moved and seconded approval of the three contracts and voted four to zero to accept the bids. On the related pay estimate No. 2 for RDC and Baker renovation work to Kodell Construction, staff said a more detailed update will be presented at the July meeting. The board approved the pay estimate but recorded one abstention: "There's some money on here that's going to the company I work for, so I abstain my vote," a board member said before abstaining; the motion passed three to zero with one abstention.

Why it matters: accepting the bids and approving the pay estimate advances on-site work at RDC and the district's athletic facilities; staff told the board the totals fall within the project budget and that the selected contractors are currently involved in or experienced with similar local work.
