Richard Deutch elected chair; Lee elected vice chair of Needham Technology Advisory Board

The Town of Needham Technology Advisory Board elected Richard Deutch as its new chair and chose Lee as vice chair during roll-call votes at the board’s June 25, 2026 meeting. The reorganization proceeded after outgoing chair Mike Mathias announced he would step down after more than a year in the role.

Board members explained the nomination and voting procedure before holding contested elections. A member nominated Richard Deutch for chair and Lee was nominated for vice chair; the board conducted roll-call votes because one member was participating remotely. Multiple members voiced support for Deutch during the roll call, and the chair announced a unanimous result of five votes in favor for the chair position.

Members also discussed appointing a secretary. A motion was made to appoint Carl as secretary but the transcript records Carl declining to take notes. The board set future meeting dates to maintain its calendar: September 17, 2026; a tentative November 19, 2026 (some members indicated possible travel but remote participation would be possible); and January 21, 2027. Members noted capital requests and department submissions typically arrive at the end of October, which informed the scheduling.

The meeting was brief and procedural; after completing votes and scheduling the board moved to adjourn.
