Board authorizes emergency repairs on Schirtzinger Road after safety concerns for buses

The board approved work by Strawser Paving Co. to sawcut and remove failed asphalt areas and install new surface over approximately 3,793 square feet at a total cost of $42,521.00. Trustees said the damage had created conditions where buses nearly left the roadway; timely repairs were deemed necessary to reduce public-safety risks.
Trustees discussed longer-term drainage and road solutions at prior public meetings, including curb-and-gutter versus open-ditch alternatives and potential grant opportunities; however, residents at a public forum in August favored targeted drainage fixes rather than a full road widening.
The emergency repair work is intended to stabilize the roadway and provide time for county and township engineers to develop longer-term drainage and restoration plans.
