Beaufort County board approves district strategic plan and school renewal plans for 2026–27

The Beaufort County Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the district strategic plan and individual school renewal plans for the 2026–27 school year.

Dr. Stratos, the district presenter, walked the board through the five-year renewal cycle and interim goals designed to reach the district targets (referred to in the presentation as "75/75/92" for core achievement and graduation benchmarks). She described the renewal plans as data-driven documents that feed Title I planning, professional development and monitoring visits, and said schools enter annual interim goals to measure incremental progress toward the five-year targets.

Board members asked how the district tracks and validates progress. Board member Mr. Smith pressed for clarity on measurement and school-level accountability; Dr. Stratos said the district uses needs assessments, portfolio meetings, instructional reviews and monitoring visits as opportunities to compare formative assessments to plan targets and make adjustments. "Transformation happens from your school renewal plan," she said while outlining how Title I plans and professional development are generated from those needs assessments.

Secretary (speaker 1) moved the approval and the motion was seconded and adopted unanimously.

Why it matters: the renewal plans set the district’s measurable objectives for student achievement, gifted and talented identification, graduation rate and school climate for the next five years. The plans also describe the district’s approach to proliferating successful practices across schools through portfolio meetings and instructional reviews.

What’s next: board members requested more in-depth engagement on the plans and suggested codifying the district’s monitoring mechanics so those steps can be shared publicly and used to build community understanding and support.
