The committee agreed to participate in a joint review of the city's Complete Streets design guidance and to prepare proposed ordinance language to bring to counsel for drafting.
Barbara Sadick said the intent is "to participate in the working group from the bicycle, pedestrian blue ribbon committee and make that a joint working group," adding the current working group does not include police or fire and that a more rounded review could reduce conflicting interpretations. She said the guidance document contains exceptions and some conflicting drawings "that show different things that I think are worth revisiting."
Several committee members said the 2000-era ordinance is dated (one member pointed to references to streetcars) and urged clearer language about bicycles and e-bikes. Members directed staff to solicit suggested language internally, have Eric collate submissions, and invite Jane from legal to craft a formal recommendation to council. Staff expected a legal report-back on July 13.
The committee voted to permit committee members to participate in the Blue Ribbon working group and to draft internal language adjustments for review by counsel. Members emphasized avoiding a quorum when volunteering for the working group.
