Public commenter urges Glendale to act after warning EHV funding is ending

At the meeting’s public-comment period, community member Anie Kosh urged the Commission on the Status of Women to use its influence with the City Council and Glendale Housing Authority to address expiring Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHV). Kosh said the commission had received a $5,000 donation last year from Gateways Hospital and argued that the city should prioritize maintaining housing for vulnerable households, including domestic-violence survivors.
Kosh described EHV as a COVID-era federal subsidy intended to help the most vulnerable and said households were recently warned that funding would not continue to 2030 as initially projected. She said approximately 188 households currently receive EHV support and that federal funds were projected to run out this year. Kosh urged commissioners to advocate for county Measure A rental-aid funds and to raise the issue with the City Council and Housing Authority so families do not “fall between the cracks.”
Staff and commissioners responded that the matter is being addressed by Glendale staff, the Housing Authority and City Council, and that staff is looking into funding-extension options, including county Measure A. Staff noted the Section 8 waiting list is closed and that details about new vouchers and local options will continue to be discussed with council and housing partners.
