The Lancaster County Board of Commissioners approved a $32,400 agreement with Sinclair Hill Architects on April 28 to conduct a space needs assessment for the County Election Commission.
Todd Wilchin, of the Lancaster County Election Commission, told commissioners the study is designed to capture peak operational conditions — July through November — to evaluate deficiencies identified during the 2024 election cycle, including long lines at early voting, parking shortages and shared parking with other county offices. The study will include a site visit to Douglas County to review their post‑2024 changes and to inform recommended renovations or operational changes.
Wilchin said the architect firm has prior experience with the property dating to the initial acquisition and subsequent additions; the board’s approval will allow the study to start in July to coincide with petition season. Commissioners Rick Vest, Matt Schulty and Sean Flower Day voted yes on the motion.
The agreement was described as the next step recommended by county staff after reviewing 2024 turnout and logistics concerns; Wilchin said the study will help inform future decisions about how the Election Commission uses its space.
