Senior Center Director Ann Marie Claffey told the commission Feb. 2 that the Windsor Locks Senior Center was awarded a Federal Transit Administration Section 5310 grant to purchase a new bus, and that the grant follows an 80/20 cost split with the town responsible for 20 percent of the purchase price.
Claffey said she attended a pre-procurement meeting with the first selectman and met with a vendor to determine vehicle specifications. She and commissioners discussed the age and mileage of the existing bus fleet and warned that rising vehicle costs could leave a gap in the local share required for purchase.
No formal vote was taken on procurement or funding beyond the grant announcement. Commission members asked staff to continue procurement planning and to report back with firm cost estimates and recommendations for covering any local match.
