Bolton schools set budget adjustments, discuss bus contract and accept resignation

At its regular meeting, the Bolton Board of Education took routine votes and heard a substantive superintendent report on budget and contracts.

The superintendent told the board that the finance committee set a reduction of $325,852.82 to the Board of Education budget, which the superintendent said puts the BOE increase at 2.9% from last year and produces an estimated mill rate of 6.22 percent that the board is slated to vote on June 22. "The Board of Ed budget was reduced by $325,852.82 putting the BOE increase at 2.9% from last year's increase," the superintendent reported.

The superintendent also said the district received $107,000 in supplemental aid announced by the governor but that officials were still seeking clarity on allowable uses; a meeting with the Commissioner of Education was scheduled to discuss restrictions. "There is a little confusion as to how that money can be used," the superintendent said.

On procurement and operations, the superintendent reported that the district exchanged what officials hope are the final language adjustments with the other attorney on transportation contracts and that staff hope to finalize contracts in the coming weeks. Board members asked whether housing district buses in Bolton remained likely; the superintendent said local housing could generate property-tax revenue and described prospects as "cautiously optimistic."

In routine business, the board approved the minutes of its April 9, 2026 meeting and approved the April transfers and reclassifications after discussion of a higher-than-expected banner upgrade cost. The board also acknowledged the resignation of Bolton Public Schools custodian David Spinelli and expressed thanks for his service. The board adjourned after routine business.

The board was also reminded that teacher contract negotiations will begin this summer and that administration and Ms. Goldstein are preparing information for bargaining.
