Board hears capital-project updates as USS Nebraska exhibit opens on the grounds

Nebraska State Fair staff reported progress on ARPA and GILCA-funded projects, extended water and sewer to the shop warehouse area, solicited plumbing bids, and completed a submarine-themed USS Nebraska photo exhibit visited by six sailors.
Operations staff told the board June 19 that multiple capital and grounds projects for the Nebraska State Fair are moving toward completion ahead of the Fair.
Tina Thuernagle, Operations Director, said work on ARPA, GILCA and other capital projects is in progress; water and sewer service has been extended to the shop warehouse area and plumbing bids are being solicited to finish remaining work. Northwest parking-lot concrete, south campus improvements and Grand District utility infrastructure were reported as nearing or on schedule.
A submarine-themed photo opportunity tied to the USS Nebraska has been installed inside Raising Nebraska. Thuernagle reported that six sailors from the USS Nebraska recently visited the exhibit.
What this means: Infrastructure improvements are intended to support operational capacity for the Fair and improve vendor and visitor access; the new exhibit adds a themed experience consistent with the 1868 Foundation’s programming and other Fair attractions.
Next steps: Staff will continue procurement to complete plumbing work and finalize remaining site improvements before opening day.
