The Board cited Section 7.2 of the Marquette Code of Ordinances, Chapter 63 (Shoreland Protection) as the relevant ordinance for the application. The property was described in the application as unrecorded Lot 10, Tuttle Lake Plat, part of Government Lot 5, Doc# 325489, sec. 22 T17N R10E.
The Board heard from applicants David and Donna Stapleton, who presented application materials and a video. Chair Mary Walters summarized the materials and opened the public hearing; she said no members of the public were present in person or remotely to speak, and the public hearing was closed.
Member Lance Achterberg proposed a condition that the applicants implement shoreline erosion control and revegetation of disturbed areas during construction under the guidance of the Marquette County Land & Water Conservation Department "as necessary." The Board then approved the variance with that condition on a motion by Achterberg, seconded by Johnson. The stated reasons for approval included the limited size of the lot, the locations of the septic system and well, that the deck would include one of two egress points for the dwelling, and that the proposal would not impact shoreland areas or neighboring properties, which have similar reduced setbacks.
Jean Potter announced the Board's next meeting will be May 29, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Public Safety Room of the Marquette County Courthouse. The meeting adjourned at 1:20 p.m.
