The Goshen Board of Public Works and Safety affirmed a building commissioner’s order on Wednesday requiring abatement of nuisance conditions and demolition or repair of a deteriorated accessory structure at 7 East Jefferson Street.
Ordinance and building staff described complaints beginning in March and multiple re‑inspections that found outside accumulation of materials, a long‑parked vehicle and an accessory structure in need of roof and exterior repairs. Inspectors said multiple written notices were mailed, re‑inspections found no corrective action and staff ultimately prepared a notice requiring abatement with a statutory 10–60 day timeline; the building commissioner’s order was forwarded to the board for review.
Property representatives Brad and DL Striker told the board they have already begun cleanup: one of two cited vehicles was moved and is scheduled for towing, and the owners have arranged a volunteer‑assisted cleanup of outside debris on July 11. The Strikers said they intend to demolish the unsafe back section of the garage and are obtaining demolition quotes and permit information. They asked for time to complete the work and said they are willing to accept assistance from volunteers and nonprofits to expedite removal of accumulated materials.
Staff recommended, and the board adopted, a 90‑day timeline for substantial progress on abatement and demolition, with a scheduled review hearing Oct. 8, 2026. The board noted the property owners’ cooperation and the planned July 11 cleanup but emphasized that the timeline is an enforceable requirement and that staff will continue to monitor compliance.
