Residents raise code-enforcement and rezoning concerns; commissioners approve property acquisition action and a resignation agreement

Patricia Varnador alleged repeated trespass, property destruction and removal of timber from her property, and she said she had not received timely follow-up from Glynn County Police or code-enforcement staff. Varnador described multiple incidents she said were ongoing and urged county follow-up.
Eric Jacobs, a neighbor on General Oglethorp Road, spoke with a group of nearby residents to express opposition to a proposed rezoning for 104 General Oglethorp Road that would have permitted professional office use. He said the group’s objections center on spot-zoning concerns, traffic and safety issues, noise, lighting and potential impacts to neighborhood property values. Jacobs said the applicant deferred the application before the board vote.
Later the board recessed into executive session to discuss personnel and real-estate matters. When the board returned it approved the June 18, 2026 executive-session minutes and approved the county attorney’s recommendation on a property acquisition matter. The board also voted to approve a resignation and release agreement with Assistant Police Chief Stephanie Oliver; meeting remarks recorded the motion carried with one vote against.
What happens next: commissioners and staff did not announce further public follow-up on the code-enforcement allegations during the meeting; neighbors were told the rezoning matter at 104 General Oglethorp Road was deferred by the applicant and will return to the public process if refiled. The county will complete required documentation on the property acquisition and personnel agreement approved after executive session.
