Commissioners approve two food-service conditional use permits for Pier Village businesses

The Glynn County Board on July 2 approved two conditional use permits for small food-service businesses in the Pier Village Market at 215 Mallery Street: Banana Cabana (Unit 7), which plans to sell frozen chocolate-dipped bananas and similar treats, and Simple Man Bread Company (Unit 3), which will bake and package bread for retail sale.
Stephanie Lee, Glynn County planning and zoning director, explained that food-service businesses within the Village Mixed-Use (VMU) district require conditional use permits. For Banana Cabana staff reported the applicant is working with Environmental Health on the food-service permit and Joint Water & Sewer conditioned approval on installing a grease interceptor and passing pre-treatment inspection before preparing or serving food. The Island Planning Commission (IPC) had unanimously recommended both applications to the board.
With no public speakers for either item, Commissioner Duncan moved and Commissioner Rafolski seconded approval of CUP-26-2 (Banana Cabana); the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Duncan later moved and Commissioner Clark seconded approval of CUP-26-3 (Simple Man Bread Company); that vote also passed unanimously.
What to expect: applicants must complete Environmental Health and Joint Water & Sewer requirements (including grease-interceptor installation where noted) before commencing food preparation or sales. Staff will monitor permitting compliance before the businesses may open to the public.
